Transmission options for the 2016 Fortuner are a six-speed manual (2.4 G M/T) and a six-speed automatic (rest of the range). Replacing the old 2.5 liter is the 2GD-FTV with 2.4 liters and a variable geometry turbo, putting out 150 PS and 330 Nm while torque on overboost is rated at 400 Nm. It puts out 177 PS and 370 Nm of torque with overboost rated at 450 Nm.
The 1GD-FTV is a 2.8 liter, 16 valve, four cylinder turbodiesel with variable geometry turbo. The new 1GD – FTV and 2GD–FTV engines are smaller than the old KD engines in terms of displacement but deliver more horsepower and torque. The new Fortuner also benefits from Toyota's new range of diesel engines with the GD family. Top-spec variants will also get a DVD touch-screen entertainment system with navigation, automatic climate control and steering wheel mounted paddle shifters.
